Hervé Van Der Straeten
French designer living in Paris, Hervé Van der Straeten has established his uniqueness by creating pieces that combine a radical freedom of tone with high-quality craftsmanship. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in painting, his approach is characterized by dynamism, hybridity and purity. Fromhis first jewelry creations in 1985, to the opening of his gallery in the Marais district, rue Ferdinand Duval, and the establishment of his own bronze and woodworking workshops in 2004, he has consistently pursued his research and confirmed his independence. Producing unique pieces and limited series, his collections of furniture, lighting and objects have seduced international leading collectors and decorators.
Some of the world’s leading luxury brands have called on his design expertise. In 1999, he designed the iconic J’adore perfume bottle for Dior, porcelain pieces for Bernardaud, the Excess collection for Cristalleries de Saint Louis and the Miroir refreshment stand for Ruinart. He collaborates on the decoration of Roger Vivier’s flagships and also designs some of their furniture. Both the company and the designer receive awards and distinctions. Hervé Van Der Straeten was named Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres in 2008. His company was awarded the “Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant” label by the French Ministry of Culture in 2007. Several pieces have been acquired by the Mobilier National, and two others have entered the collections of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. His work is exhibited by the Flore gallery in Belgium and the Ralph Pucci gallery in the United States.
